Description

• Start from hotel (Riga, Jurmala) at 7:00am;

• 12:00 - Tallinn’s medieval Old Town (2hr) is known around the world for it’s authentic Hanseatic architecture. Enjoy the cobblestone streets and houses dating back as far as to 11th century. This walking tour explores the “two towns” of Tallinn. The city once consisted of two feuding medieval towns separated by a wall. The upper town—on the hill, called Toompea—was the seat of government ruling Estonia. The lower town was an autonomous Hanseatic trading center filled with German, Danish, and Swedish merchants who hired Estonians to do their menial labor. We will visit - Town Hall Square, Freedom Square, Danish King's Garden, Parliament Building,  City Wall,  Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and Toompea Castle;

• 14:00 - The construction of Patarei sea fortress was started under the orders of Nicholas I in 1828. Completed in 1840, it started to operate as an artillery battery. Over the years it has had different functions – from 1864 barracks, from 1920 a prison and from 2007 a Culture Park.
This unique 19th century example of Tallinn’s top architecture has now in the 21st century changed from a long-time symbol of repressions to a favourite place for residents of the city and tourists, a multifunctional place to spend free time.

• 15:00 - Kadriorg  castle (1hr) - it can be considered to be the grandest example of palace and park design in Estonian architectural history. The palace, originally an imperial summer residence, has been extremely well preserved since the early 18th century. Designed to resemble the Italian palaces of the time, the palace has a facade which is three levels at the front and sides and two levels at the rear in a mix of architectural styles. A banquet hall and winter garden were added to the rear facade of the palace in 1933/34;

• 16:00 - lunch & free time in Tallinn

• Return to Riga (after 23:00)
