DAY 1 - ARRIVE IN RIGA

Arrive in Riga and transfer to your hotel.

DAY 2 - RIGA OLD TOWN, LATVIAN OPEN-AIR ETHNOGRAPHIC MUSEUM

Old Riga excursion (2hrs) - is the historical and geographical centre of Riga on the right bank of the Daugava. Old Riga covers a relatively small inner area of the 13th-18th century fortifications where unique monuments of medieval architecture which, surprisingly, have survived two world wars are concentrate. The tour includes Riga Castle, Dome Cathedral, St. Peter’s Church, Swedish Gates, Three Brothers, Large & Small Guild Houses & the Freedom Monument.

• Old Riga - is the historical and geographical centre of Riga on the right bank of the Daugava. Old Riga covers a relatively small inner area of the 13th-18th century fortifications where unique monuments of medieval architecture which, surprisingly, have survived two world wars are concentrated;

• The Dome - is the Latvian Archbishop’s cathedral and a church of the Dome parish. Historically, the Riga Dome was the Livonian Order’s central cathedral until the disintegration of the Order in 1561. In the medieval period, the Riga Dome Cathedral was the largest and one of the oldest sacral buildings in Latvia and the entire Baltic Region;

• St. Peter’s Church - is one of the oldest and most valuable monuments of medieval architecture in the Baltic States. It is located in the historical centre of Riga and on 4 December 1997 was included among the UNESCO World Heritage sites;

• Three Brothers - is the oldest block of dwelling houses in Riga. The houses are situated on Maza Pils Street. The name “Three Brothers” has been given on the basis of similarity to the Three Sisters in Tallinn – a group of warehouses in the Old Town;

• House of the Blackheads - originally called the New House, was built in 1334. It has been reconstructed on numerous occasions – from 1522, when the entrance was supplemented with doorstones, up to late 19th century, when the house was decorated with lion figures above its entrance and a rendition of St George appeared in the adjacent building;

Excursion to Latvian Open-Air Ethnographic Museum in Riga (3hr) - an unusual pace can be found a half and hour’s drive from the centre of Riga on the shore of Jugla Lake. Leisurely walks, skiing in winter, putting yourself in the lives of ancient Latvian farmers and fishermen, discovering the bathhouses used by ancient Latvians, being part of festive celebrations or forging your own jewellery; all of this is offered by the Latvian Open-Air Ethnographic Museum.

DAY 3 - SIGULDA, LIGATNE, TURAIDA MUSEUM RESERVE, THE GUTMANALA, LIGATNE NATURE TRAILS

Tour to the Sigulda (10h) - If you wish to be carried away by history, Sigulda is the right place. Since the time when the tribes of Balts and Livs fought with the German crusaders, Sigulda has boasted of exciting legends and mighty castles, which are situated in the distance of a cannon shot from each other.

Durring this tour we will visit: Turaida Museum Reserve (2hr) - is a heritage site. The 42 hectares of grounds are replete with archaeological, architectural, historical and art monuments, all of which provide an account of the events from the eleventh century onwards. The Gutmanala (Goodman's Cave) - grotto is the most popular and vast cave in Latvia. It was formed in the course of 10,000 years by water gradually eroding sandstone. The grotto is a protected geological site and the oldest tourist attraction in Latvia. Goodman's Cave is 10 m high, 12 m wide and 18.8 m deep. We will have lunch and then visit Lustuzis - is a favorite visitable natural site. More and more tourists visiting Ligatne wish to perpetuate themselves and their friends in pictures against the mighty cliff. Therefore a special sight platform was created on the foot of the cliff ensuring rich landscape and at the same time protecting the natural monument from human-induced cracking. Ligatne Nature Trails (35km) - on the banks of the Gauja River, among the woodland crossed with ravines, there are more than 5 km of trails where you can watch wild animals and birds native to Latvia.

Free time in evening in Riga.

DAY 4 - DEPARTURE

Arrangements end after breakfast with transfer to the Riga airport.
